Diluting BioMagic for Use in Composting Toilets

To prepare BioMagic for composting toilet use:

Standard Spray Mix

  • 25 ml BioMagic Concentrate
     
  • 475 ml water
     
  • (Optional) 2–3 drops of NuKlean or plain dishwashing liquid
     
  • Mix in a spray bottle for easy daily use.
     

This dilution allows the bacteria-friendly formula to spread evenly through the compost pile and toilet bowl without over-wetting or disrupting the system. A composting toilet needs to be damp, if the compost is soggy it can cause odours. If too dry the compost will struggle to break down the waste. The diluted spray application of BioMagic will keep the compost at a balanced level to ensure it thrives and accelerates the composting process. 

 

How to Use BioMagic in Composting & Waterless Toilets

1. For Everyday Use

Spray the diluted BioMagic:

  • Into the toilet bowl
     
  • Across the compost pile surface
     
  • Onto the sides where waste may stick
     

Lightly dampen — don’t over spray the compost.
This increases aerobic activity, controls odour, encourages balanced moisture, and supports fast, clean breakdown.

Repeat as needed based on usage levels.
The same spray mix can be used to clean:

  • The toilet bowl
     
  • Surrounding surfaces
     
  • Urine diverters
     
  • Seat areas
     

This avoids introducing chemical cleaners, which can disrupt the natural composting process.
For general cleaning bowl cleaning, BioMagic’s NuKlean Cleaner is recommended.

 

2. Reviving a Dried-Out Composting Toilet

If the compost pile has dried out and biological activity has stalled:

  • Add 100 ml BioMagic Concentrate to a 5–10 L bucket of water.
     
  • Slowly pour into the compost pile so the liquid absorbs fully.
     
  • Resume normal use to reintroduce moisture, bacteria, and oxygen.
     
  • Spray the surface daily until the system stabilises.
     

Once the composting process returns to normal, continue with the standard spray method.

 

3. Eliminating Drain Odours or Blockages

If your compost toilet has a liquid drain that smells or drains slowly:

  • Add 50 ml BioMagic to 1–2 litres of water and pour through the drain.
     
  • If blocked, fill the drain with diluted BioMagic and allow it to soak through.
    This may require more than one treatment depending on the amount of organic build-up.
