When we go out in our caravan, camper or motorhome the health and safety of our water tank is paramount. Fresh safe drinking water is something we all take for granted and thats OK - if its treated town water in most cases. Once you take it from the tap it is a great idea to know what and how it is best treated. For instance I filter mine to remove all sediment, most of the lead and heavy metals, chemicals and also the chlorine taste and smell. This leaves me with much more palatable water but it is not safe to store long term .
We also need to know what is in the tank you are going to store it in. If the tank has been used before there is a good chance it has some microbes present in the bottom of the tank and in some cases where it has sat empty for a while probably large communities of microbes are very happy in their dark, moist environment.
The easy safe answer is to treat the tank and contents with a sanitiser or purifier. A sanitiser will sterilise the contents and container but usually you need to empty it out and start with another lot of water because you cannot drink the product. A purifier will sterilise the water and container and leave the water absolutely drinkable with no smell or taste and no residue.
Water pure will treat the water for all bacteria , viruses and also cysts, remove chlorine and yet leave it with no odour, taste or residue and you can safely store it unused for many many months providing you follow the instructions. This means as a traveller I do not have to sacrifice water to make sure it is clean and safe to drink but it also tastes good.
I can also leave my vehicle with safely treated water in the tank until next trip without concern. It also means if I need water I can take it from an unknown or untreated source and safely treat it on the spot.
Water pure is the safest easiest answer to healthy drinking water for travellers and rainwater tanks alike.
